A normal, happy five year old, Callum lives in a small Yorkshire mining village when his life is turned upside down. Torn away from all he has ever known in his short life he is thrust into the midst of a large family, whose inhabitants show no concern for the sad child. Aggie Smith, his supposed aunt makes life unbearable for Callum whilst keeping a well-hidden secret from her unsuspecting husband and her large brood. His teen years find Callum living with the gypsies who haunt the small villages each summer trying to live off their wits. After a failed attempt at army life Callum follows his heart to Australia where he is reunited with members of the Smith family.This story, although fictitious, contains much truth about the life Susie lived in a smallmining village in Yorkshire.
