Ellen and Eric, ages 9 and 12, go on a camping trip vacation with their parents to The Outer Banks of North Carolina.  They are loving, adventurous children who adore animals, and they also are siblings that like to challenge each other.  Eric is the teasing, yet lovable, older brother. Ellen is the trusting little sister who can be duped when Eric puts his mind to it. While there, they experience the wonders of the ocean; kite flying on the beach; bicycle riding for adventure; and facing fears.  Specifically, while riding their bikes back to the campground one night, Ellen lets her imagination run away from her, and she believes Alligators are going to jump out on the bike trail at her, thanks to a mischievous suggestion by her brother.  When everyone else hears a "Peep", Ellen hears an Alligator roaring.  The story takes the reader on Ellen's journey of dealing with that fear, and concludes by showing how the family turned it into one of their cherished family memories. Hidden in plain sight within each beautiful illustration, there are progressively more ants that show up on each page.  The accomplished young reader is challenged to figure out what the ants have to do with the story, and even the youngest reader loves to search each page for the ants.  A playful little ant cues the reader in the beginning to search for the ants, and an allligator queries the reader at the end to see if they figured it out.   Delightful, whimsical, hand pencilled illustrations, and a lively story that speaks to the child in all of us, makes for great family reading fun!
