A useful Cartridge Chronology traces the development of ammunition from 846 A.D. to 1934, and the Appendix discusses primers, bullets, patents, and manufacturers headstamps. While newer works are now available, Herschels Cartridges remains a classic introduction to the subject and an invaluable reference for the historian, gun-collector, or sportsman.
