Edmund Gosse was an English author, poet, and critic at the turn of the 20th century. Gosse is credited with introducing the works of Ibsen to the British public. Ibsen was a Norwegian born in 1828. He is considered to be the father of modern drama. Ibsen is held to be the greatest of Norwegian authors and one of the most important playwrights of all time, celebrated as a national symbol by Norwegians. Ibsens work challenged Victorian values. His examination of the realty behind the Victorian facades was troubling to many Europeans. Gosses book is an excellent in depth study of one of the greatest dramatists of all time.
