Two countries permitted the immigration of many persecuted people from Nazi states: Turkey governed by President Kemal Atatürk (for professionals only) and the Philippines. The Frieder brothers, Alex and Phillip, originally from Cincinnati, OH, expanded their family’s cigar business during 1921 into a lucrative enterprise in Manila, the capital city of the Philippines. They played poker with General Dwight D. Eisenhower and the US High Commissioner for the Philippines, former Indiana governor, Paul V. McNutt. Together, they devised a strategy for saving Jewish immigrants in the Philippines. There were about 1,300 refugees who needed jobs and living quarters. The number of refugee families gradually declined after the armed hostilities with Japan ended in 1945. Those who left emigrated predominantly to North America and Israel.I brought to light immigrants’ achievements in three books involving Slovakia, and much less extensively Germany and Austria. Many more books are needed to influence this planet and silence the rising world’s xenophobes. The rescue of Jewish refugees in the Philippines has already been described by several authors. The major objective of the present contributor is to outline the accomplishments by the liberated individuals following World War II.
