He attended various universities in the UK and obtained a Bachelor of Education degree, followed by a Master of Science degree in Experimental Nuclear Physics, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Solid State Physics. His working career commenced as a lecturer, a job which he enjoyed deeply. Seeking higher remuneration, he soon left the teaching profession and entered the world of commerce where he had a meteoric rise through the ranks of an international company based in the UK. In 1982 he sought to migrate to Australia and arrived there early in 1983. Over the next 22 years he held a number of senior positions in various companies.
