I Belong portrays the life of Magdalena, who left her country at the age of 18, to go study abroad and eventually ends up working with refugees in West and Central Africa. In doing so, she finds out that one of her mother’s closest friends was a refugee, taken away to Sweden during the Uruguayan dictatorship. Magdalena seeks to reach out to him to unite them, while at the same time facing her own fears working in countries in conflict. This is a story about migration, about a woman who struggles when having to choose between her dream of remaining abroad, and the guilt of going back to her country while trying to find herself in the world. I Belong analyses the quest that ‘citizens of the world’ tend to face while traveling throughout different continents seeking what one desires the most: home and the feeling of belonging.
