This original investigation deals with the procedure Donne used in dilating a text into a sermon. An analysis of Donnes sermon on Psalm 32:1-2 exemplifies the way in which he divided his text and accordingly structured his discourse. This framework can then be filled out by multiplying the significations of words and figures. Donnes sermons are therefore shown to be a form in which reading and creative literary expression meet.Originally published in 1976.A UNC Press Enduring Edition -- UNC Press Enduring Editions use the latest in digital technology to make available again books from our distinguished backlist that were previously out of print.
