Tam is in her last year at school. She has dropped a subject, has to fend off advances from the new boy, and has constant nightmares.  She is grieving the loss of her older sister. But as she feels progressively forced to ‘talk about it’, she finds herself wanting to connect with Jake, the new boy.  She does, and on this night she stays out very late, much to the consternation of her parents, but convinces herself she did the right thing, and finds herself quickly falling for Jake. But when he comes out of remission from lymphoma. Tam is distraught. Her sleep suffers, as does her eating. Her parents force her to see a psychiatrist, and so begins the long journey to forgiving herself. The psychiatrist even gives Tam Viktor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning to read. And so begins a doctor-patient discourse about what suffering is, why it is necessary, and how to create meaning in our lives. Jake lives, and Tam realises the value of appreciating small ‘moments’ and about creating meaning in our lives.
