Maine Passages is a collection of stories about a boy growing up under the influence of his Maine environment. In a sense it is a period piece as the stories reveal middle class society of the 1940s to the early 1960s. It also resembles a Maine travelogue because the stories were located in named towns and were traveled on well-known routes. Trials and accomplishments are illustrated in the framework of a child living and learning through his maturation into a person prepared for a productive adult life. Characters in these stories are real people, and, with a few exceptions, I have used the first names of my peers who are an integral part of my stories. In fact friends from those years who read the stories will likely recognize themselves.
