Mischief in the Park! is the story of what happens when two mothers and their children meet together at the park.  Mark and Kayla's mother, Dee, is able to show her friend, Faye, the secret of dealing with the challenging behaviors of kids.  Dee demonstrates counting out 1-2-3 when Kayla, Mark and Maddie have an argument.  Faye's daughter, Maddie, sees how this technique might even help her listen better to her mother.  Dee follows up with positive reinforcement that encourages the kids on a path of better conduct and good relationships with others. The story is a rhyming, fun story to be used by parents as a tool to help their children understand the 1-2-3 count as a discipline method.  Counting out defiant behaviors like arguing, begging, whining, and temper tantrums gives the child the opportunity to decide to stop before they face a discipline.  The key for parents is to avoid over-talking and showing too much emotion during the interaction with the child.  By doing this, the parent takes the authority in the situation, and the child will not be able to enjoy the power that can be won when they get a rise out of the parent.  The goal is to teach kids to be more self soothing, self controlled and self reliant.  This is the type of child we all want to send out into the world.
