The fact that the brooch is in the shape of the Star of David points to a strange and mysterious Jewish background and starts the young lady on a search for her roots. In her search she discovers some shock-ing truths about her real familys past, and learns what sort of sacrifices her long dead family members made for her, and understands just how lucky she has been to have survived at all.
