She worked as an unpaid technical athletics official, and she also acted as team manager, accompanying British athletes abroad on several occasions.When her serious athletics career finished she worked in two schools, predominantly as a games teacher. Later in retirement, Dorothy joined husband Dick at the Croham Hurst Club in South Croydon to become a keen and successful golfer.National recognition came in 2000 when she was awarded an MBE, which she felt was long overdue, a view she claimed to have confided to Prince Charles during the investiture.
