We Met on a Tuesday Morning is based on the true story of the successful adoption of my younger son, Vincent. The adoption was transracial, and I wanted to share our experience with other families. There are not many adoption stories available at the present time (2015) depicting the adoption of African American babies and children.I begin the story by sharing the reason why Vincent’s birth mother placed him for adoption and explain that they both miss each other very much. I also try to explain that Vincent’s life is much like other children’s – his adoption doesn’t change his life too much, but that of course there are some differences that he notices as he grows into a boy. Furthermore, I detail his hobbies and interests and try to write from a child’s point of view.The moral of the story is that families can be created in many ways, and that there are many, many types of different families both here, in the United States, as well as globally. I try to present a perspective from our particular family that may be of interest to children who are curious about what constitutes a nuclear family. I hope this story is very enjoyable to the children in your life!
