WE DESCEND FROM CHARLEMAGNE - THE EMPEROR OF THE WEST. This was discovered by doing the family research on our great grandmother, Ada D. Carter, the wife of William Harrison Ledbetter. We have Carter Bible birth records that take us to Adas grandfather, James S. Carter. He was the grandson of Dale Carter, who had been scalped by Indians in 1774. Our line first arrived in America when Major Edward Dale and Lady Diana Skipwith sailed from England to Jamestown, Virginia, in about 1652.Sir Henry Skipwith was the father of Lady Diana Skipwith, and this line goes back to our ancestors who signed the Magna Charta, as well as to our ancestor, King John, son of Henry II. Our line was admitted to The Order of the Crown of Charlemagne. In this book are memories of Percy and Olive Ledbetter who grew up and married in Illinois. Their seven children are each sharing childhood memories and experiences.
