In 587 BC, Jerusalems Temple, Gods dwelling place on earth, was reduced to a smoldering ruin. Its faithful worshipers were in exile, stripped of homes, possessions, and places of worship. Where was Gods promise amidst such destruction? From catastrophe, something utterly new emerged. A physical Temple was replaced with a portable one, in the form of the written Word. The books that emerged from the Temples destruction included Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. These works, rendered into Latin in the late 4th Century of the Christian Era by Saint Jerome, appear here in a Latin-English, verse-by-verse edition. Each verse of the Latin text is followed by its English translation. The Latin text of the Vulgate, used by permission from the German Bible Society, is drawn from Roger Grysons masterful 1994 Edition of Biblia Sacra Iuxta Vulgatam Versionem. These works, translated afresh by John Cunyus, are the latest in Searchlight Presss Latin Old Testament Project.
