The Promised Land is Mary Antins 1912 autobiography, which tells the story of her early life in what is now Belarus and her immigration to the United States in 1894. Antin describes her public school education and assimilation into American culture, as well as life for Jews in Czarist Russia. Mary Antin (1881 - 1949) was an American author and immigration rights activist. Other notable works include From Plotzk to Boston (1899) and They Who Knock at Our Gates - A Complete Gospel of Immigration (1914).
